Killing Isaac
Writer : Charlene Lim
The day was still when he died I saw him wince, then gasp, his eyes watering.
I waited, hands poised, looking up, for a sign, or a flash of something.
There were only reminders of a command. The one, whom I love.
How are you pleased by incense so pungent? You give and take away. You cruel, cruel hand!
In your salt cloister, bathed in smoke, Do you see beyond your arm?
From whom all names of creatures flowed, A but, I AM, is all you call yourself.
I am not I am because my love is dead. Do you apologize? Do you compensate?
Then, a certain strangeness occurred. A crisp newness greeted me.
