Music > Bethelehem Skyline by Downhere, Jaime Jamgochian, Circleslide, Jason Gray & Daniel Kirkley

Writer: Annabelle Ang-Bok

Bethlehem Skyline. Downhere, Jaime Jamgochian, Circleslide, Jason Gray & Daniel Kirkley (Centricity Records, 2007)

An intriguing collaboration by a group of contemporary artistes presenting captivating originals as well as fascinating new arrangements of well-known pieces, Bethlehem Skyline makes an excellent addition to any Christmas music collection.

The theme appears to be "Unabashed celebration of Jesus". Traditional favourites like O Come, O Come, Emmanuel are given a pop/rock feel and infused with a joyous sense of freedom, and originals like How Many Kings unreservedly declare the true meaning of Christmas:

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is all torn apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

Definitely a clarion call to come and worship the King!
