Various artistes (Word Entertainment, 2000) A joint project by several well-known female artistes, One Silent Night offers an opportunity to contemplate the story of Jesus' birth from different angles and perspectives. Granted, the album is now nine years old and the arrangements are more classic than contemporary, but the intimacy and wonder arising from these ladies' meditations on the first Christmas night remind us that "we are ever in God's sight". We have reason to sing because "the answer that came down/From heaven's door/Offered freedom from a bondage/Far greater than Rome". Audiophiles will find pleasure in the interesting mix of traditional symphonic and choral styles with more modern pop/rock and even R&B sounds.
